Welcome to the news page!
Often people will call or email me asking what puppy news is happening or how training is going, what breedings are planned or happening, and so on. I'll try and update this page often so people can follow along to the happenings here at my kennel!
Today is a day I have feared for years and years. I hurt so much. I cannot express accurately the pain in my heart.
I was delivering a puppy to a good friend in South Carolina a few days ago. A very nice puppy that is a grandson to my old competition male Stuka. Stuka was born on January 14th, 2004. I got him at 7 weeks of age. I knew immediately that he was something very, very special and loved him immediately. That dog and I had such a connection and so many tremendous memories. As a competition dog we achieved many titles and showed in many trials. Stuka was named the Helper's Favorite at National events an impressive 5 times and anyone that respected strong dogs always tipped their hat to him. All his drives on a scale of 1-10 were a 15. The dog had an unbelievable ability to easily withstand extreme pressure and stress. Amazing fight drive in all he did. He proved himself on the street as a police dog after his sport career ended. I'm not a police officer anymore. But when I was I was a K9 handler. I'd take Stuka with me here and there when my other dog needed a break and when I ever called upon him he always came. This same dog that could impress the best helper on a sport field, and go to real life just as impressive, was gentle as a lamb to my little girl and would make her complain "Daddy, Stuka tried to lick me."
My friend watching my kennel while I was away called me. She told me she thought something had happened to Stuka. Of course I immediately jumped in my truck and raced through the night to get back to his side. We got him to the vet. After a few days of tests and prayers we finally determined that my Stuka had cancer. Always the fighter, always the warrior, this magnificent German Shepherd Dog, he had fought it as long as he could. And always the loyal friend, he made sure he waited until I was at his side before leaving.
I laid with that old dog out on green clover underneath a beautiful sky. I fed him nice lunch meat. I stroked his sable fur. I ran my fingers through that lion's mane as I cried. I gave him his precious ball he loved so much. I talked with him and we reminisced there on a sunny day of all the great times we had. I told him over and over how much I loved him. How much I respected him. How much he meant to me. How I'd never be able to replace him. How brave he was and how brave I was trying to be for him and that I was gonna be his friend again and not let him suffer. I thanked him for all he had ever done for me. I wrapped my arms around that old dog's neck and held him tight as we laid in the sun. We laid there together. I told him it was ok and not to worry for me, that I'd see him again someday soon. He nestled in to me and held his ball. I whispered into his ear, kissing his face, and telling him all the things I wanted him to know. I waited until his beautiful eyes told me it was ok and he was at peace, and I sent him home. As I held him sobbing, a lone cloud in the sky came seemingly out of nowhere and shadowed us there on the ground. It made me look up. The cloud looked just like a dog running with a handler and an outstretched arm behind him directing him forward. I smiled, and my friend that was with us laughed with me. We knew it was Stuka's way of telling me it was ok. And that he didn't hurt anymore. He was young. And free. And wanted me to smile and remember the good times. I cannot express accurately into words how much I love that dog, and how much reverence I have for him, what a special place he will forever hold in my heart, and how much I miss him. I love him so much it hurts.
The "always powerful" SG1 Stuka vom Enckhausen SchH3, IPO3, FH, Kkl1 HOT trained. My Stukaboy. January 14, 2004 - October 8, 2014.
Bonnie has been confirmed pregnant with an outstanding male, Fyke van't Leefdaalhof SchH1. Her expected due date is around March 18 and we are very excited!
Last month I sold my competition male Car z Oravskej Doliny to another police department. I wish Czar luck on the streets!
This past weekend my schutzhund club, OG Landshark, hosted the 2013 Mideast Regional Conformation Championship. It was the largest regional conformation show in USCA history. I will be posting pictures in the next week of the event. We were lucky to get SV Judge Dieter Oeser to be at our event and highly recommend him to clubs.
Highlights for Sportwaffen from the event were:
** Two workingline Sportwaffen males taking first and third in their class against showline males
** Czar getting his show rating and dental notation
** Laila being one of only two dogs passing the breed survey bitework
and last but not least!!!!
Laila is now V rated and Kkl1 under SV Judge Dieter Oeser!! In addition to her sport and conformation, she is also a certified narcotic detection k9. Very proud of that indeed and her awesome handler Lorna Thomas, who has now taken not one, but two Sportwaffen dogs from puppies to V rated, schutzhund titled, Kkl1, and police k9 certifications!! As Lorna is my close partner now and actually helped breed and whelp Laila's litter, this makes Laila a BHOT dog as well. Congratulations Lorna Thomas and V Laila Belle von den Sportwaffen IPO1, Kkl1, BHOT, Certified Narcotic Detection K9!!!!
I have not updated my NEWS page in a long time. I'm sorry about that but I have been extremely busy and tied up with multiple litters and seminars and training, etc. I am going to focus back on the website for a little bit.
The FOR SALE page has been updated. August 31st we repeated the breeding between Stuka x Queen. This was a highly successful breeding between two phenomenal dogs that produced as awesome as we planned. This will be a breeding for true working dogs.
My schutzhund club near Indianapolis, Indiana is hosting the 2013 Mideastern Regional Conformation Show October 4-5-6 with SV Judge Dieter Oeser. This will be a very large event and you should come attend. We'll have a great time! More information can be seen by clicking OG Landshark Mideastern Regional Conformation Show
I will be updating the For Sale page very soon. I have the following females confirmed bred: Queen, due April 13th, Bonnie, due April 25th, and Bessie due May 7th. All three females have been bred to my Stuka. Breedings are confirmed and will produce German Shepherd Dogs for Sport, SAR, Personal Protection, Police, and Military. These are all previously bred dogs that produced wonderfully.
The new whelping kennels are finished. Each whelping kennel is 8 x 16 with temperature control, nursing station, food prep area, power, office area, cabinets, and background music. Queen is due about any hour so she will get the first one broken in. We are so excited to soon have puppies on the ground. Sportwaffen has an extensive puppy program and we really enjoy the little ones around here.
I just got done adding about 70-80 new photos to my old German Shepherd Dog photos pages. You can visit them by clicking here. Enjoy!!
Is anyone else dying for 65-70 degree weather to train in? Snow, snow, snow......
I am extremely happy at the results of our trial with USCA/SV Judge Johannes Grewe. Multiple new titles on dogs raised from puppies. Four Sportwaffen dogs included:
Crystal Hidy with Mikah von den Sportwaffen BH
Brian Watts with Neeko von den Sportwaffen BH
Brian Watts with Nayla von den Sportwaffen BH
and my good friend Lorna Thomas with Laila Belle von den Sportwaffen IPO1.
Just returned home from the 2012 United Schutzhund Clubs of America German Shepherd Dog Nationals. Congratulations to the winners! There were some very nice routines.
I'm gonna start updating the For Sale page right now. Some super nice breedings coming up, females already bred, for a really exciting start to the new year here at my kennel.
I'd also like to introduce you to my newest female addition to my amazing breeding program. I liked my female Bonie so much, I purchased her sister Besy di Dranel SVV1! Extreme female for breeding! We are very proud of the females we possess in our working line breeding program here at Sportwaffen K9!
Happy Halloween everyone!!!!! After some trick or treating I'm off to see the 2012 United Schutzhund Clubs of America German Shepherd Dog Nationals!!!!
My beautiful black sable female SG Sarah ze Stribrneho kamene SchH1, IPO1, ZVV1, ZPS1, FPR3, kKL1, who is also my loyal house dog, delivered three beautiful puppies from her breeding with V Chuck vom Dorneburger bach SchH3, IPO3, Kkl1, WUSV, 2008 USA National Champion. I have a boy/girl bi-color and a boy black sable. Sarah is being a wonderful mother and the puppies are doing great.
These puppies are available for purchase and priced at $1500 with a two year health guarantee and full AKC registration. This breeding was designed for schutzhund, police k9, and personal protection/family companion.
K9 Frigo exhibits that the German Shepherd Dog should properly have a total of 42 teeth. :)
Six police k9 teams have successfully completed the Patrol and Detector Dog School. Everyone did a fantastic job. Congratulations guys! Now get out there and get those dogs to working!
I have made the decision to hand off Czar to my good friend and training partner, Lorna Thomas. He really comes up in aggression for her and is very protective of her and she likes him a lot. I wanted to retain the dog for my breeding program and wouldn't have sold him away. I like the dog very much but saw how much the two of them had bonded when she handled him for a period and it just looked right. So now instead of handling him, I get to let him bite on me. :) Lorna will do a great job with him and I'm excited to see them as a team.
Here's a video of Czar doing some bitework and civil groundfighting with my friend Brian Harvey. I have more video coming of Czar in the bark and hold on Brian, and it is intense!
Bonnie delivered 4 beautiful Stuka puppies! 2 boys and 2 girls. They are listed on my For Sale page and can be seen by clicking here. This is a top sport/k9 breeding. Pictures to come soon!
Welcome to the 2012 AWDF Championship and Team Challenge!
OG Landshark Schutzhund, Polizeihund, und Rettungshunde is extremely honored and excited to be selected as the host club for the 2012 AWDF. The AWDF has always been an awesome event bringing in huge numbers of top competitors of all breed backgrounds and is routinely the largest entry IPO event in the United States. As individual handlers and breeders we all have our personal favorite breed that defines our passion, however, the AWDF is where we all come together in support of our common passion: working dogs and dog sport! This culmination of so many beautiful and skilled working dogs promises something for everyone, helping to positively promote our breeds, our organizations, our dog sport, and assist in educating the public, ensuring the future for our belief in the absolute need and value in the continuation of the working dog.
An event of this magnitude is as you can imagine a tremendous amount of work and preparation. We are working hard and extremely elated to be offering some things others trials don't, to give the 2012 AWDF that extra touch and mark of excellence. It truly will be a trial you won't want to miss. When we set out on the path to host this event, my mission statement to my team was simple and clear. I wanted the 2012 AWDF to be the very best and would accept nothing less. It is our goal to host a well run and competitor friendly event, professional in every way, with world class judging and quality leadership, focused toward offering competitor and spectator alike an amazing event that is fair and balanced in every way, hugely exciting and entertaining, with high value for the dollar spent, and no detail overlooked. We will accept nothing short of this as a promise to you. We demand of ourselves that every person leave the event and say "That was the best dog trial I have ever been to."
I have personally assembled my team of professionals to oversee certain aspects of this trial. I would like to personally thank each of these individuals for the dedication, work ethic, and extreme commitment they have shown to the success of the 2012 AWDF. Each of them have been empowered to do whatever is necessary to make it right and make it happen, and have been tasked with making the 2012 AWDF the best trial ever. Please allow me to introduce them in no particular order.

As part of this top notch world class team, we have brought in for the first time ever in the United States, four foreign judges to judge our event. Handpicked for their impartiality and fairness to offer every competitor their fair chance of retaining their 100 points per phase the same as everyone else, these judges were all selected for their honesty, morals, reputations, and dedicated promise to me personally that no favors existed, no special treatment of any kind, if points taken from one they are taken from them all, best team wins. Period. Our club and our judges are very proud of this commitment to our competitors. As another integral part of our 2012 AWDF event team, take a moment to familiarize yourself with our helpers. They are all top notch and we're excited to offer them to test these dogs. As with our judges, our helpers were selected for their dedication to safely and fairly test the dogs, without bias or agenda, to ensure the very best handlers and dogs have their chance to showcase why they are truly the best of the best.
Enjoy your look through our website. I hope each of you attend in whatever way you can. You have my personal promise that the 2012 AWDF Championship and Team Challenge will be an event you won't want to miss! We'll see you there!

Queen delivered 6 beautiful Howy puppies! 4 boys and 2 girls. They are listed on my For Sale page and can be seen by clicking here. This is a top sport/k9 breeding directly from Europe.
My newest training article on ScentLogix K9 Narc Pseudo can be read by clicking here. This an article on a revolutionary training aid (ScentLogix) designed by my scientist friend, David Adebimpe of Polymath Interscience. It was published in K9 Cop magazine and got great feedback.
My new females are bred and expecting. I have listed their pages and listed the litters on the For Sale page. You can visit it by clicking here. These are extremely nice females, bred to TOP males. I will be updating the pages in the next days with more pictures and videos. These are top-notch breedings for top sport, police K9, SAR, personal protection, and family protectors.
I'm happy to report my newest sport male, Car z Oravskej doliny is continuing to impress and progress nicely in his training. I will enter him for his BH and his AD at the 2012 AWDF and will continue him toward titles before breeding. I have updated pictures and videos I will add very soon.
I have two new breeding females coming in from Europe. I am very excited to be adding them to my breeding program! More info to come soon!
Puppy pictures at 6 weeks old from my current litter of Max z Stribrneho Kamene SchH3 x Jenny von der Langerts SchH1. This litter is currently sold. My next litter has already been bred and is due in about a month. Chuck vom Dornerburger Bach SchH3 x Facka z Vysneho SchH1 should be another fantastic Sportwaffen litter. These means our first two litters of the year are out of SchH3 National Champions and WUSV dogs bred to my hand selected Sportwaffen females. More information to come....
Pictures of me (Nate Harves) and my Police K9, Paco, during some narcotic training. Paco is a great K9 for dope.
Police K9 Nova von den Sportwaffen is continuing to be a wiz at narcotic detection for her new police department. She has located several finds including cocaine, black tar heroin, methamphetamine components and marijuana. Way to go Nova!
This is the kind of news that as a breeder makes me very happy! Nova von den Sportwaffen is now a narcotic police k9 in Arizona. Go get em Super Nova!! Join the ranks of countless other Stuka progeny wearing the badge!
Born: December 22, 2010
Nova von den Sportwaffen was bred here at my kennel and raised for training as a narcotic detection police K9. She was bred out of my male SG1 Stuka vom Enckhausen SchH3, IPO3, FH, Kkl1 (son of two time National Police Dog Champion Stormfront's Brawnson) and import Facka z Vysneho Caju ZVV1. She was born on December 22nd, 2010 so she is just under one year of age. Her hips and elbows have been xrayed and passed normal-normal. She is extremely social and would be a dream at locations such as schools and airports because purchasing agency would have zero liability of any problems that can sometimes be present with K9's and instead would have a PR dream dog. Nova loves everyone, is very friendly and affectionate, and she loves to hunt dope. Nova was trained and certified on 7 odors of narcotic detection:
Lastly, on 12/17/2011 Nova is documented as having a live street find on the interstate at night and positively alerted to the presence of narcotics in a vehicle traffic stop resulting in the arrest of two subjects for possession of heroin and paraphernalia! Under one year of age, good hips and elbows, vet checked, certified on 7 odors, obedience trained, with a live street find on a vehicle stop already under her belt. My patrol K9 alerted to the vehicle. Nova was taken to the vehicle and offered the same indication in the same location as my proven street patrol K9, resulting in the heroin. What more could you ask for? (Pictures and Video below)

UPDATE!!!! 01/11/12-- Jenny has delivered four puppies. One black sable female, two black sable males, one black male. Momma and puppies are doing great!
The FOR SALE page is newly updated with multiple sport and police dogs and litters for sale. You can go there by clicking here.
It has been a long time since I've updated my news page and I've heard the emails from you because of it. My apologies, we've been very busy planning with hosting the AWDF and all. I'll try and catch you up to speed on some things before I work to officially update them on the site here and there.
First off, we have puppies on the way due the first week of January. Our alpha female Jenny von der Langerts SchH1 has been bred to two time USA National Champion V Max ze Stribrneho kamene SchH3, IPO3, Kkl1. I wanted to wait until the pregnancy was confirmed by ultrasound and it has. I will get information on this top sport German Shepherd breeding up on the for sale page today.
A trained and street proven narcotic detector dog will be listed today as well. Nova von den Sportwaffen has been certified in 7 odors, passed hips/elbows, and is ready to work the street at under one year of age. Pretty impressive. Nova made a hit on I-65 two nights ago of heroin and paraphernalia. Good job Nova! We were called in to do a search and my police dog gave a positive alert. Since we had my new sport dog Czar z Oravskej doliny, Laila von den Sportwaffen (Stuka vom Enckhausen x Jenny von der Langerts), and Nova von den Sportwaffen (Stuka vom Enckhausen and Facka z Vysneho Caju) close at training and Lorna Thomas and I had previously narcotic certified them, we ran them too. All dogs gave clear positive alerts to the heroin. Good job guys! I have pictures and videos to post.
We have a nice young sport/personal protection male to list for sale. Mason is a black sable male out of Erri x Blatenskeho zamku SchH3, IPO3, Kkl1. I have pictures and videos to post of him as well.
I am offering a retired sport/breeding female for sale to the right home. She's a wonderful dog.
After doing helper work on Czar for awhile I have transitioned him back to my hands and all is going well. We are right back into the swing of things. I was impressed with his ability to handle the pressure and stress I showed him as a helper after being handled by me, then make a full transition back into me handling him. It speaks well to his genetics. Please check out his web page here on this site.
I have had to switch up gears on my new sport dog, Car z Oravskej Doliny, to tap into the behavior I'm wanting in his bark and hold. Car has insanely high prey drive and wants for the bite so much that it will lock his barking at times. But he really wants to bite so then it becomes a challenge to get him to bark while keeping him off the helper. He has lots of normal social aggression as well and is extremely confident. I have had to work to keep his thought of prey lower for the bark and hold so the aggression comes out the way I want him to operate in the blind. Because I know just what I want to see and how I want his behavior punished or paid, I have started working his bark and hold myself to try and cement the behavior to what I want. This is exciting for me because not every dog can do quality bitework on their handler and it not only gives me a great opportunity to have it done just how I want, but also to get a really nice view into the working abilities of my dog and how he operates in his drives and handles pressure. I have taken video and will try to post it to the site in the next days. I am happy to report I have him barking extremely nice in the blind. His longbite continues to become faster, and faster. I caught him on about a 50 yard longbite yesterday at training and it was insane. A week prior my friend Joe Brockington, a very capable top sport trial helper, caught Czar (his call name) and it was incredible. Joe stated "That was insane... I think that's the fastest longbite I've ever caught. It was dangerous, man. I'm serious. He almost took me down, but I wasn't gonna let that happen! haha"
Upcoming Police K9 Patrol Dog School and certification in Indianapolis, Indiana with Nate Harves being planned for November. Will be a five week school for full time sworn law enforcement K9 handler teams. More information to come on the Seminars page.
Upcoming Police K9 seminar with Nate Harves in Crittenden, Kentucky. Dates are not finalized, projection is three day event in November. More information to come on the Seminars page.
Exciting times for my schutzhund club, OG Landshark Schutzhund, Polizeihund, und Rettungshunde! We are changing training locations to a facility with more buildings to use, and will have access to over 20 acres of lush tracking on site. Our club has also purchased a travel trailer to use during training days in addition to our existing clubhouse and shelter. The nice benefit of the travel trailer is we will take it with us as a hospitality area for our members when travelling to training events and trials. It will offer our members and their dogs a break from the heat, a place to warm up, or simply somewhere to sit down and grab a bite to eat or relax a little.
Congratulations to my good friend Lorna Thomas on Laila Belle von den Sportwaffen returning normal-normal on her hips and elbows through the SV in Germany!
Lorna has worked very hard on Laila's training and is very very close to the SchH1. Her BH work is complete, but Laila just turned 15 months, so we had to wait until she met the age requirement for titling. Laila is a medium sized dark sable female with a very clear head and high drives. Her gripping on the sleeve and the dumbbell is extremely hard for a female and very calm. Ball drive and food drive are very high, tracking is slow and methodical. She is also very fast. When Laila is titled, she will join the Sportwaffen breeding ranks. I am extremely excited at this because she is a SG1 Stuka vom Enckhausen SchH3, IPO3, FH, Kkl1, HOT daughter out of my 4-4 Fero female Jenny von der Langerts SchH1. Excellent genetics and blood for breeding! If you'd like to see Laila's page you can by clicking here. There will be more pictures and videos added in the next week or so.
I have added to the page with information on measurements, specs, patterns, layouts, etc., for multiple schutzhund bite table and bite box measurements. You may go to it by clicking here.
My apologies for the time between NEWS updates, I have been very busy. I'm now off to travel to Tennessee and Kentucky to do an affiliation trial and a helper seminar. If you would like to attend the helper seminar, it is at Tom Huelsman's club on Saturday and Sunday August 27 and 28, 2011. You can visit Tom's website by clicking here.
I have pictures and videos of my new dog, Car on his page now to see. They are already outdated though as he's growing and doing better by the day. I will have updates coming soon on this fantastic animal.
We also recently put on a Police K9 Patrol Dog School and I have some very good pictures from it I will share when I have time to upload them.
I have pictures and videos of my new dog, Car. We have been working his aggression and civil and it's coming very nicely. I will have them up soon on the site.
I travelled to Pennsylvania and Massachusetts the end of April and first week of May to do two Regional Helper Seminars as a USA Teaching Helper. I took Car with me. Very valuable for a young dog. He flew on four planes, travelled in crates, dog trailers, new cars, tracked in different fields, trained on new fields, saw five states, and multiple helpers I knew were capable of working him. Very valuable for a young dog to see. I was very happy with how he handled it all. Always wanting to work.
The Bernhard Flinks seminar went extremely well and was a big success! Our club had a wonderful time and will repeat this event next year. Bernhard and I agreed on a great many things and enjoyed training together.
I have been working with my new male Car. I bought him completely green (no training) and am getting him going. I've had him about two months. He's doing very well and moving along nicely.
Sportwaffen K9 has secured a future stud male for the kennel. I tried to keep it under wraps but the word's out and I keep getting phone calls about him. So, I started his page and will be listing information soon. I purchased him at 12 months old out of Slovakia. He is completely green with zero training. Beautiful male. Top working bloodlines. Absolutely for top sport! He has begun his training toward titles here at Sportwaffen K9.
More to come soon!
The Stuka x Cheyenne puppies are doing fantastic. There are still puppies available and will be placed based on individual need and testing, not by first come first serve. They are being exposed to multiple environments and socialized. Eating very well, energetic. They have been moved to a sheltered outdoor kennel and like the new environment.
Below is 10 month old Sunshadow's Caine son Kevo von den Sportwaffen.
German import SG Cheyenne vom Severusbrunnen SchH3, Kkl1 whelped her litter with the always powerful SG1 Stuka vom Enckhausen SchH3, IPO3, FH, Kkl1 and delivered ELEVEN PUPPIES, 5 MALES AND 6 FEMALES!!!! Puppies and mother doing excellent!
SG Cheyenne vom Severusbrunnen SchH3, Kkl1 is due today with her repeat litter with the always powerful SG1 Stuka vom Enckhausen SchH3, IPO3, FH, Kkl1, HOT. This breeding has produced some excellent sport, police, and personal protection dogs with clear enough temperament and drive levels high enough to fill working roles by day and still be family dogs off duty. Cheyenne has begun her contractions and will begin delivery soon of this outstanding repeat litter. We're very excited! More to come soon!
O.G. Landshark is now a full member club with United Schutzhund Clubs of America! We are now making plans to host a Bernhard Flinks seminar in March of 2011. More information to come!
